Formaldehyde Spill Kit

It does not absorb the formaldehyde. It converts it — into a non-toxic solid mass within a few minutes, eliminating the emissions and vapours with it.

The substance before the kit

Formaldehyde is an organic compound used mainly to preserve biological tissue and anatomical specimens, and it presents a real hazard: it is classified as a carcinogen by the World Health Organization.

On that basis, the HAZ MED Formaldehyde Spill Kit was designed to a high professional standard for the removal of this highly volatile substance and for protection against the vapours it produces, which are toxic, carcinogenic and severely asphyxiating.

The kit neutralises formaldehyde chemically rather than absorbing it: a carefully designed chemical reaction converts the formaldehyde into a non-toxic solid mass within a few minutes and eliminates all resulting emissions and vapours.

Formaldehyde Spill Kit

The Formaldehyde Kit is highly specialised and is not in widespread general use. It is concentrated with forensic physicians and pathology specialists, where the substance is used heavily. It is also found in healthcare facilities, hospitals and tissue preservation units, as well as research laboratories, universities, chemical plants and any facility that relies on formalin.

More important still That the people present in these settings know how to respond: isolating the spill area and increasing ventilation, then verifying concentration and volume, and then following the response instructions.

Contents

The Formaldehyde Spill Kit has exceptional characteristics and advantages found in no other kit. HAZ MED has reinforced its value through the standard components it contains:

  • Personal protective equipment a respirator dedicated to toxic vapours with a special filter, sealed safety goggles, thick neoprene gloves, and a fluid-resistant protective apron.
  • Formaldehyde chemical neutralising agents innovative chemical solidifying powders, scattered over the spill, that react with it and convert it into a solid mass.
  • Collection tools a plastic scraper to lift the formaldehyde mass, and dedicated drying wipes to remove residues from surfaces.
  • Dedicated waste bags high-gauge bags in which the formaldehyde mass is placed for disposal.
  • Instruction booklet guiding the responder through use of the kit with the full safety data set out.
