HAZ TAB Disinfectant Tablets

A small round tablet with a very large effect. Effervescent sodium dichloroisocyanurate (NaDCC), delivering a known quantity of chlorine, prepared at the point of use, without measuring liquids.

The response is not finished when the spill is collected

Whatever the type of spill, and however successful, complete and flawless the response, the disinfection that follows is no less essential than the response itself. Hidden residues can become a genuine focal point for later disasters if they are not dealt with intelligently.

HAZ MED accordingly set out to secure complete solutions before, during and after a spill incident. Rather than stopping at complete spill kits, we added the HAZ MED disinfectant tablets.

What the tablets are

HAZ tablets, HAZ TAB, HAZ MED disinfectant tablets, HAZ MED chlorine tablets — all are different names for one product.

The tablets are manufactured from effervescent sodium dichloroisocyanurate (NaDCC). They resemble familiar medicinal tablets, but on contact with water they dissolve in a rapid effervescent reaction and release free chlorine with excellent disinfecting activity.

They are used to prepare concentrated disinfecting solutions of precisely known strength, reproducible time after time without measuring liquids.

Why tablets rather than liquid

  • Small — especially compared with liquid hypochlorite.
  • Easy to store.
  • A known quantity of chlorine, every time.
  • Prepared with excellent efficacy immediately at the point of use.
  • No need to dilute a chlorine solution by estimate, and no need to carry large volumes of disinfectant solution.

HAZ MED disinfectant tablets come in four sizes, covering strengths from 60 ppm up to 10,000 ppm.

HAZ TAB options

The tablets are available in several sizes and strengths, all based on the same principle and the same chemical reaction. The only difference is the disinfection volume required. Their uses are identical — decontaminating spill residues and disinfecting surfaces — and they are excellent for disinfecting sinks and toilets and for disinfecting laboratory instruments and cleaning equipment. The differences between them are as follows:

HAZ TAB dilution guide

Disinfectant tablets are not used arbitrarily. The dilution reference depends largely on the intended use of the tablets and on the type of material or surface being treated, as follows:

Handling HAZ TAB disinfectant tablets

These are highly effective chlorine tablets, but they carry two sides of the same coin. The first is powerful disinfecting efficacy capable of dealing with any spill or incident. The second is the certain hazard should these tablets fall into unqualified hands. A set of safety instructions and data is therefore permanently carried on the label of every pack:
  • Keep out of reach of children and non-specialist personnel.
  • Close the tablet pack tightly and store it in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place.
  • Do not inhale tablet dust or the chlorine vapours released on dissolution.
  • Avoid contact with the eyes and skin, and wear protective equipment when using the tablets.
  • Do not mix the tablets with acids, ammonia, ketone-based products or other incompatible substances.
  • Do not allow prolonged contact between the tablets and stainless steel unless the use is intentional.
  • Read the label on the back of the pack and the full safety instructions before use.
